On July 10th, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Georgia and Caritas Czech Republic held a meeting with the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labor, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia. During the meeting, Minister Ekaterine Tikaradze expressed her gratitude towards to the Czech Government for its close cooperation and contribution to the health and social sector.
At the meeting Caritas Czech Republic presented two projects, which will be implemented with the support of the Czech Development Agency.
Project Manager Tamar Kurtanidze presented the project “Way to Home Development of Adult Alternative Social Services in Georgia” which aims at creation of national system of adult alternative care based on the individual needs of beneficiaries. Particularly, it concerns the deinstitutionalization of two large boarding homes for persons with disabilities (PWD) in Martkofi and Dusheti and development of relevant family style services for the beneficiaries of these services. The project is initiated by LEPL Agency for State Care and Assistance for the Victims of Human Trafficking and is in line with the state policy in the field of disability and human rights proceeding from the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which has been signed and ratified by the Government of Georgia.
“I am confident that this project, which we are very happy to start with, will be a big step forward for the country. We are not only professionally but also emotionally involved in this process. I would like to thank you for your cooperation and contribution to various sectors of health care, "said Deputy Minister Tamar Barkalaia.
"This day is very emotional and important for me because I, as the mother of a disabled person, started 9 years ago and initiated the establishment of family style homes for PWDs in Georgia. Today I see the result that I was thinking and dreaming about over time, family style services are developing in Georgia, which is a form of correct and decent support for persons with disabilities”, stressed Maia Shiniashvili, project consultant.
