In frame of the ENPARD program, Caritas Czech Republic in Georgia (Head of the mission: Jan Blinka) is a donor organization in Khulo municipality. In frame of ENPARD Khulo project in 2018 has been founded local community organization ‘’Khulo Local Action Group (Khulo LAG), which is coordinated by Aslan Artmeladze. He is guest of newspaper ‘’Ajara’’.
During recent years, central government and international donor organizations are paying more and more attention to preserve mountainous settlements, to develop traditional fields of agriculture, to introduce innovations, to raise well-being of local population, to improve economical situation of each families and to create new job places in local areas. ‘’ENPARD’’ Khulo project is exactly oriented to subjects mentioned above.
Khulo municipality consists more than 50 villages and dozens of other small settlements. In frame of ‘’ENPARD’’ Khulo project what has been done in Khulo municipality?
Since project launched 3 grant competition has been announced. Total budget of grant competitions are 1 million Euro. Totally, 71 beneficiaries have been financed so far and answers of 3rd grant competition is yet to come. Main beneficiaries of grant competitions are local farmers, business owners and guesthouse operators. Rural development without heavy machinery is unthinkable and especially Khulo municipality has lack of it. It was extreme rare to find in municipality: Arable aggregates, cultivator and hey shed machinery. Totally, 6 projects have been financed, which aimed to fill the already mentioned machinery gap for rural development. Machinery projects has been financed in Ghorjomi, Satsikhuri, Dioknisi, Vashlovani and Dekanashvilebi communities. Residents of Khulo municipality now can freely plow the land and shed the hey.
What was the result of mentioned agriculture machinery so far for Khulo municipality?
According to season, machinery only use to plow the land. Within this technic this year areas intended for one year species, had been plowed on time with high quality. Haymaking season starts since August and continues till end of the October. Hay shed technic will work in Khulo municipality, in hayfields such are: Zankebi, Velatebi, Ghorjomi, Mekeidzeebi and Tkhinvala. To transport shed hey is much easier and is protected from moisture and rot.
Within farmers, how business sector benefits from the ENPARD Khulo project?
Totally has been financed more than 30 business project (There are more in other fields) which can labor up to 400 people. Locals have priority to be employed in all financed projects.
What about 3rd grant competition?
Application received during 3rd grant competition now is sent to field expert who will check project details within special system. After the results beneficiaries will be informed to start finance process.
What activities has been conducted against COVID-19 by Caritas Czech Republic in Georgia?
Main aim of the organization is to work hardly in field of rural development. Besides that, organization was active during COVID-19 threat. Second Lot of 3rd grant competition dedicated quick response projects against COVID-19 threat. Khulo hospital received necessary medical equipment and technic, total amount of 20,000 GEL to fight properly against coronavirus pandemic situation.
What about roles of other partner organization?
PMC Research Center is the most important partner organization for ENPARD Khulo project. Role of PMC RC are to conduct various research and trainings for grant beneficiaries. And finally, local farmers are getting crucial knowledge, with official certificates to develop own farms and businesses. ENPARD Khulo Project with partnership of Caritas Czech Republic and PMC Research center continue purposefully to work for better development of Khulo municipality.
